Poggio Basso Chianti DOCG 2011

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 18-Oct-2012
The Poggio Basso estate is 50 ha. A blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo and 10% Malvasia from the Senese Chianti zone, fermented to 13.0% alc. Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with garnet hues. This has a light, softly packed nose of smoky cherry fruit intermixed with an array aromas including brown spices, black earth and a little funky game. Medium-bodied, soft red berry and cherry fruit flavours show with subtle earth and game elements. The fruit has an easy lusciousness and is well-balanced by light tannins and restrained acidity forming a gentle, dry texture. The wine finishes with attractive, light, fruity notes. This is a light-bodied, harmonious and gently fruity Chianti with some savoury interest. Match with pizza, pasta and barbecued food over the next 3+ years. 16.0/20 Oct 2012 RRP $19.99
