Poggio Anima ‘Samael’ Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2016

Montepulciano from Italy - Other
Review Date : 18-Jul-2018
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-hued purple-red colour, slightly lighter on the rim and youthful in appearance. The nose is full and deep with concentrated and intense aromas of ripe blackberries and plums with dark raspberries and hints of boysenberries, unfolding a layering of dark herb and earthy complexities. Medium-bodied, the palate has an elegantly proportioned palate with intense and deeply concentrated flavours of ripe blackberry and plum fruit with dark raspberries, along with earthy and mineral elements. The deep fruit forms a positive, well-defined core and line which is supported by fine-grained tannin structure and grip. The acidity is integrated and the wine carries to an elegant, lingering finish. This is an intense and deeply flavoured Montepulciano with ripe blackberry and plummy fruit on a palate with elegant structure and proportion. Match with roasted lamb, beef and venison over the next 4-5+ years. 100% Montepulciano from Chieti, vines 22 y.o., fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in tank. 3,000 cases made. 18.5/20 Jul 2018 RRP $22.00
