Poggio Anima ‘Belial’ Toscana Sangiovese IGT 2017

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 18-Jul-2018
Fullish, even ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full and voluminous with ethereal aromas of dark-red cherry fruit entwined with smoky and toasty oak elements, and hints of complexing minerally reduction, unfolding earthy nuances. Medium-bodied, the palate has an elegantly rich, sweet-fruited core of ripe blackberries, dark raspberries and cherries. The fruit is detailed by some savoury earthiness and dark herb nuances, revealing oak toastiness. The fruit sweetness is balanced by grainy tannin textures with balanced acidity lending energy to the palate line. The flavours carry to a firm, sweet-fruited finish. This is a rich, sweetly ripe Sangiovese with blackberry and raspberry fruit and some savoury earth and oak toast notes, on a grainy structured palate. Match with Mediterranean fare over the next 4 years. 100% Sangiovese from Siena, vines 25-45 y.o., fermented to 13.0% alc., 90% of the wine aged in tank and 10% in Slavonian botti for 10 months. 7,000 cases made. 18.0-/20 Jul 2018 RRP $22.00
