Pisa Range Estate ‘Run 245’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 01-Jul-2015
‘Run 245’ was the pastoral tenure number of the land given in 1866. Dijon clone fruit from vines 11-13 y.o. on the flat block, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged one year in one-third new French oak barriques. Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. The nose is fresh, bright and tightly bound with elegantly concentrated dark red berry and black cherry fruit aromas intermixed with reductive minerally notes. The aromatics grow in intensity, revealing dark herb and iron-earth detail. Medium-full bodied, the fruit flavours of black berries and cherries are well-concentrated and sweetly expressed with lusciousness and a degree of fleshiness. Minerally reduction, dark herbs and earthy elements add to the flavour interest. The wine follows a soft-textured, fine-grained tannin line, with soft acidity adding to the drive and line. The palate leads to a long, lingering finish of bitter black cherries and minerals. This is a tightly concentrated and fine-featured black fruited Pinot Noir showing some youthful reduction. Match with venison, game and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4+ years. 16.5+/20 Jul 2015 RRP $34.00
