Pikes ‘The Assemblage’ Clare Valley Shiraz/Mourvedre/Grenache 2012

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 20-Apr-2014
80% Shiraz, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Grenache fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12-18 months in French oak barriques. Full, black-red colour, near impenetrable with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is fresh with harmoniously melded primary aromas of lifted dark raspberry fruit with dark plum, pepper and spicy oak elements. Medium-full bodied, gently luscious and sweet flavours of vibrant raspberry fruit and ripe plums fill the mouth. This is up-front with the fruit supported by supple and fine tannins, the mouthfeel rounded and very integrated. The palate has good line, and the wine leads to a sustained finish with aromatic fruit and spicy oak elements. This is an up-front and harmoniously rounded SMG wine to serve with coq au vin and casseroles over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $22.99
