Pikes ‘Eastside’ Clare Valley Shiraz 2012

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 20-Apr-2014
Full, near saturated black-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated with deep aromas of ripe black berry fruits, black pepper and layers of spicy, cedary oak forming a dense core to the nose. Medium-full bodied and tightly concentrated, sweetly ripe flavours of black fruits, pepper, spices and minerals are the feature on palate. The fruit is supported by plenty of extract and structure, the tannins ripe and fine-grained, balancing the fruit richness and providing a firm, sinewy line. This has good drive and discreet acidity, keeping the fruit bright. The textures and mouthfeel lead to an elegant, restrained, but lingering finish. This is an elegantly concentrated Shiraz with ripe black fruits and a concentrated palate. Match with slow-cooked game meat over the next 6-8+ years. 100% Shiraz fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12-18 months in French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Apr 2014 RRP $28.99
