Philipponnat ‘Clos des Goisses’ Champagne 2000

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 04-Dec-2012
From the 5.5 ha walled ‘Clos des Goisses' vineyard at Mareuil sur Ay, 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. Full, even, light golden-yellow colour with a very persistent, moderately fine bubble. The bouquet is firm and solidly concentrated with powerful aromas of toast and yeast extract, minerals, earth and developed nutty, yeasty autolysis and aldehyde elements. The aromas of Pinot Noir fruit and bottle-age are evident. Dry, full-bodied and firmly dense, this is soft in mousse and crisp in acid mouthfeel, but stolid in presentation and presence. Complexity of flavour is the feature with nuts and toast and clear aldehyde characters and oxidative layers. Savoury toffee-like and brandy hints are present adding to the interest. The wine has breadth and a little flatness to the expression. This masculine Pinot Noir expressive wine is becoming mature, bit its complexity and solidness will be interesting to follow over the next few years. 18..0+/20 Nov 2012 RRP $389.00
