Peter Yealands ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 02-Dec-2013
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with a light purple rim. The nose is moderately full and voluminous with savoury raspberry and black berry fruit along with notes of fresh herbs, aniseed and complexing nuances of undergrowth. Medium-bodied, the palate shows restrained but fresh flavours of raspberries and black cherry fruit are entwined with fresh herbs and a suggestion of stalk. The fruit has liveliness and sweetness, enhanced by the acidity, and the palate is balanced by fine-grained tannin grip, forming a good driven core. Some alcohol warmth is noticeable, and nuances of liquorice and herbs emerge, leading to a light finish. This is a fresh-fruited lively Pinot Noir with raspberry and herb flavours and a fine-textured structure. Match with duck and pork dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 100% Awatere Valley fruit given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., with a portion of the wine aged in 2 y.o. French oak. 17.0+/20 Dec 2013 RRP $20.99
