Peter Lehmann ‘Mentor’ Barossa Cabernet 2011

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 27-Jun-2014
Peter Lehmann’s best expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, ‘Mentor’ can include small portions of other red varieties. Fruit from two sites, one in Rosedale, the other Light Pass, fermented, partially in barrel to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in French oak hogsheads. Full, black-red colour with some purple hues, very youthful in appearance. Classical blackcurrant and cassis aromas show with purity, intensity and finesse, the oaking totally integral, and the ripeness near perfect, with beautiful fragrant herb lift, the aromatics still primary. Full-bodied, the palate is extremely elegant in expression and tightly bound, with a very fine core of blackcurrants and cassis, along with a little oak spice and lift. The tannins are very refined and the mouthfeel has a velvety, linear flow. The fruit is sweet yet reined in, and the smoothness offers accessibility. The palate has understated power, line, softness, finesse and real length. This is quite approachable now, but will develop over the next 8-10 years. 19.0-/20 Jun 2014 RRP $62.00
