Petane Station Esk Valley Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2014

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2015
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues. This has a full, deep and powerful nose of exotic yellow florals entwined with aromas of ripe apricots and citrus zest, unfolding layers of nutty, creamy oak and complexing flinty detail. Dry to taste and full-bodied, fulsome, deep and broad mouthfilling flavours of apricots and tropical fruits unfold layers of exotic aromatics with citrus zest and blossom notes. This has harmoniously unctuous and creamy barrel-ferment textures with nutty detail. The palate is rich and powerfully driven with plenty of alcohol warmth and generosity. The wine flows smoothly, guided by a fine phenolic line, and soft lacy acidity lends good vibrancy and energy. The wine carries to a long and sustained finish of apricots, nuts and florals. This is a full-bodied, rich and powerful Viognier with harmonious exotic fruit and creamy oak flavours, with plenty of drive. Match with rich seafood and white meat dishes over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the ‘Tracks’ block, WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 15.0% alc. and aged 8 months in 50% new French oak. 70 cases made. 18.0/20 Oct 2015 RRP $32.00
