The third release of a Penny's Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, made from fruit from vines planted in 1993 in a 2.0 ha plot bordering Edwards Road. Fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine was aged 13 months in 30% new French and American oak. Very full, near saturated black-hued purple-red colour, this has a finely presented, intense nose of lifted blackcurrant fruit with some mint notes, and subtle oak shine. The varietal expression is clear. Medium-full bodied, the palate is well-proportioned with rich and juicy blackcurrant fruit and spicy, cedary oak flavours enriched by excellent acidity. Fine-grained, firm tannin provide a line of structure and lead to a dry, very sustained finish with mint and blackcurrant leaf nuances.
