Penley Estate ‘Phoenix’ Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 29-Nov-2018
Full, even, black-hued ruby-red colour, near impenetrable at the heart, a little lighter on the rim, youthful in appearance. The nose is fine in proportion with well-concentrated and intense aromas of ripe blackcurrant fruit with cassis liqueur harmoniously melded with mint and dark herbs. The nose has an attractive clarity of expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate has sweetly rich blackcurrant fruit with cassis and dark herbs, the fruit showing lusciousness. The mouthfeel features fine, firm tannin extraction and structure and fresh, lacy acidity enlivening the palate. The wine carries to a firm and textures, sustained finish. This is a rich and lusciously fruited Cabernet Sauvignon with blackcurrant, cassis and herb flavours on a fine, but firm textured palate with a refreshing mouthfeel. Match with roasted beef and lamb dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak 5% new, followed by a further 6 months in tank. 18.0/20 Nov 2018 RRP $26.00
