Penkridge Farm Pinot Noir 2018, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 23-Apr-2021
Deep ruby-black with good transparency, slightly lighter rim. The nose is gently full and with power, nuances of cherries, blackberries, underline wild herbs and barrel spices. Medium-full bodied, aromas of red and black cherries, plums, melded with wild herbs, black pepper, unfolding rich floral perfume. The fruit advanced on the palate, herbs and spices slowly followed. Velvety, ripe tannin broadened the mouthfeel, added weight and a fine grip. This is an approachable Pinot Noir with advanced fruit, subtle details and underlined power. Match with lamb and venison over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from Mount Pisa, Clones 5 (50%) 667 (50%). Handpicked, clones were kept separate, 5-7 days cold soak, fermented in vats to 14.2% alc, 5-7 post-ferment maceration, aged in French barrels for 9 months, 25% new oak. 110 cases produced. 18/20 pts (90 pts) Apr 2021 RRP $40
