Penfolds ‘Yattarna’ Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from Australia - Tasmania
Review Date : 13-May-2014
Brilliant pale straw-yellow, lighter on rim. This has a very contemporary, sophisticated and complex bouquet of white stonefuits and gunflint, the fruit showing great richness and power, and depth, with the reductive elements offering a supporting layering. On palate beautifully elegant and pure, with very fine intensity of fruit allied to mouthwatering acid cut. A mouthfeel of near unctuous textures and slipperiness allied to racy, steely cut. The fruit is tightly concentrated, with great linearity, and reveals balanced oaking presence. The palate has a very long and sustained, nutty, flinty finish. This will evolve over next 6+ years. Fruit from 95% Tasmania and 5% Adelaide Hills, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged in 64% new French oak barriques. This is very similar to the 2010, maybe a little tighter and acid focussed. 19.5-/20 May 2014 RRP $149.99
