Penfolds ‘Yattarna’ Chardonnay 2008

Chardonnay from Australia - Tasmania
Review Date : 13-May-2011
Initially called the ‘White Grange', ‘Yattarna' means ‘little by little' in Aboriginal language, describing the development of the style. For the 2008 wine, fruit sources are Tasmania and Adelaide Hills, fermented to 13.3% alc. and aged 9 months in 49% new French oak barriques. Very pale straw yellow with green hues, this is very youthful in appearance. The bouquet is very soft and fine, yet tightly bound, showing an amalgam of citrus fruits, nuts, smoke and complexing lees notes. Very soft, fine and extremely elegant, this has an underlying depth and power of citrus fruits, complex reduction, nuttiness and oak. The textures are creamy and fine, the wine perfectly poised from excellent, crisp acidity. Nuances and layers of stonefruits, minerals and oak are revealed in the mid-palate, and on the sustained and refined finish. This has real finesse and will match seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 6-8 years. 19.0-/20 May 2011 RRP $100.00
