Penfolds ‘RWT’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2010

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 12-May-2013
100% Barossa Valley Shiraz fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 80% new French oak. Very dense, impenetrable and near-saturated black-purple colour, this has an exotic bouquet, quite full and voluminous with ripe and opulent fruit aromas of dark plums and black pepper, liquorice, black florals and spicy, lifted oak. Medium-full to full-bodied, this possesses wonderfully concentrated, tight and sweetly packed fruit flavours of black plums, liquorice, spices and earth. This is supported by extremely fine-grained, plush, but significant tannin extraction and superb acid vitality and tension. The mouthfeel has opulence with finesse with a tingling and exciting tension and the palate flows with succulence to a long finish of black fruits, tar and minerals, with oak cedar apparent. This is a rich and serious, but very refined Barossa Shiraz that will develop over the next 15-20 years. 19.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $219.99
