Penfolds ‘Bin 28’ ‘Kalimna’ South Australia Shiraz 2013

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 22-Nov-2015
First made in 1959, and named after the famous ‘Kalimna’ vineyard in the Barossa Valley, owned by Penfolds. 100% Shiraz from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Langhorne Creek, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months is seasoned American oak hogsheads. Very dark, black-red with purple hues, near impenetrable. The nose is very firm, densely packed and tightly bound with aromas of ripe blackberry fruit , dark plums, liquorice and earth, unveiling black minerals and sweet, lifted American oak. Full-bodied, the palate is rich, lush and sweetly ripe with juicy and plush flavours of blackberries with nuances of blue fruits, plums, sweet oak and cedary elements. The fruit sweetness is balanced by very fine-grained, but considerable tannin extraction, lending a refined density and weight. Though juicy and plush, the fruit is somewhat shy, but the presence is undeniable. 10-12+ years. 19.0-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $29.99
