Penfolds ‘Bin 150’ ‘Marananga’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 22-Nov-2015
First vintage in 2008. 100% Shiraz from the Marananga district, Barossa Valley, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in each portions of American (14% new) and French (20% new) oak. Saturated black-red colour with purple hues. The nose is initially very refined and ethereal, blossoming in volume to show rich, ripe, black plum and blackberry fruit aromas, unfolding waves of liquorice, sweet American oak, balsamic and Asian spices. The palate is sweet, lush and juicy with opulent and decadent flavours of sweet, ripe, black plum and blackberry fruit. A fine-grained, tightly structured core of black berried fruits, plums, liquorice and minerals lies at the heart of the wine and grows in presence and grip in the glass. The structure is impressive, but the wine flows smoothly and seamlessly, revealing sweet plum jam, Asian spices, earth and chocolate. This is an opulent and decadent ‘Marananga’ that grows in structure and presence. 12-15+ years. 19.5-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $69.99
