Penfolds ‘Bin 138’ Barossa Valley Shiraz/Grenache/Mataro 2011

Blended Red from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 19-Mar-2013
Very dark, deep-hearted ruby-red colour with a hint of purple. The bouquet is elegant and a little restrained, with aromas of black fruits, dark herbs and complexing notes of earth and oak. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours are tight and a little shy, featuring Shiraz dark red berry and pepper notes, with succulent nuances and exotic spices. This is elegant in proportion and balanced with soft, fine tannin extraction that carries the flavours to a savoury, gamy finish with black fruits and growing tannin grip. This is an elegant Shiraz-based blend with restrained richness and grainy tannin textures. Drink over the next 4-5 years. A blend of 65% Shiraz, 20% Grenache and 15% Mataro from old vines in the Barossa Valley, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads. 17.5/20 Mar 2013 RRP $32.99
