Pencarrow Martinborough Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 13-Feb-2011
Complex with ripeness, elegance, liveliness and balanced structure. A touch of reduction was its only and slightly detracting aspect.  Dec 2010 A wine that has always punched above its class, the 2009 continues the heritage. From an excellent vintage, winemaker Allan Johnson employed a pre-fermentation maceration, wild yeasts for fermentation to 14.5% alc., and 10 months maturation in French oak barrels to produce this thoroughly accessible wine. Dark ruby red with purple hues to the colour, this has a full, powerful black cherry nose just touched by a little sulphide reduction. A full-bodied, full-fruited wine with dark plum and cherry flavours given good refreshing cut by the acidity, the fruit sweetness is supported by moderate tannin extraction resulting in suppleness and real approachability. A wine to enjoy now and over the next 3-4 years. 17.5-/20 Dec 2010 RRP $23.00
