Pencarrow Martinborough Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 07-Mar-2014
Bright, golden-green hues straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has a very elegant and pure, fresh nose of ripe yellow stonefruits, revealing subtle nuances of nutty oak and flinty lees elements with some MLF. The aromatics are tightly held, but build in intensity in the glass. Medium-bodied and elegant in presentation, lively and sweet flavours of citrus and stonefruits form a tightly bound amalgam on palate. This has acid drive which carries a fine, textured line to a dry, lingering finish with nutty and miinerally notes. This is an elegant, fresh and subtly sweet-fruited Chardonnay with fine textures and a lingering finish. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. Clones 95, 15, Mendoza and 2/23 from vines 8-25 y.o., fully barrel-fermented, 32% by indigenous yeasts on light solids to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 22% new barriques, the wine given batonnage with 32% undergoing MLF. 17.5/20 Mar 2014 RRP $20.65
