Pencarrow Martinborough Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 20-Feb-2013
43% estate Mendoza clone fruit, the remainder clone 95 and 15, full barrel-fermented, 10% with wild yeasts to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 7 months in 27% new oak, 40% American, and nearly full MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues. The nose is firmly concentrated with penetrating aromas of ripe stonefruit with a complex melange of toasty, charry oak and flinty reduction. Medium-bodied, up-front and soft flavours of citrus fruits are melded with some nutty oak, buttery elements, subtle flinty interest and oak toast. The mouthfeel is integrated, smooth, rounded and creamy in texture, with bright acidity underlining the flavours and providing lively tension. The palate has linearity and leads to a lighter, elegant finish with good length. Powerful on bouquet, this is a harmonious medium-bodied Chardonnay with freshness and flavour. Match with grilled seafood, poultry or pork over the next 3-4 years. 17.5-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $20.65
