Pegasus Bay Waipara Valley Riesling 2011

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 14-Dec-2014
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with lemon-gold hues, lighter on rim. This has a full, rich and honied nose with aromas of ripe citrus and tropical fruits, talc-like botrytis and subtle nuances of flinty reduction forming a layered and complex, near decadent bouquet. Delicate notes of steely minerals and hints of toast add detail. Medium in sweetness and medium-bodied, soft and rich flavours of citrus fruits and honey combine with marmalade notes. The mouthfeel is suggestive of unctuousness, the acidity ripe and fine, providing a line of vibrancy and freshness. The palate follows a very refined textural line with flinty, toasty nuances unfolding, leading to a soft, dry, honey-flavoured finish. This is a soft, rich and decadent medium Riesling with layers of complexing detail. Serve as an aperitif, and with Asian or Middle Eastern fare over the next 5-6 years. Waipara Valley fruit with a portion botrytis-affected, cool-fermented to 12.5% alc. and 21.5 g/L RS. 18.5+/20 May 2014 RRP $28.95
