Pegasus Bay Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Apr-2014
Even ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues. The bouquet is elegant with ethereal aromas of dark red berry fruits and plums with integrated notes of savoury, earth and spices, along with red florals. The bouquet builds in depth and volume with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the flavours are restrained and stylishly expressed, with interwoven dark red fruits, dried herbs, earth, spices and florals. The fruit is carried by fine-grained, taut tannin structure and background acidity that enlivens the fruit sweetness. A deep, dense core is revealed, carrying the ethereal and complex, spicy flavours to a long, soft-textured finish. This is an elegantly flavoured and ethereally complex Pinot Noir with sweet spiciness and fine structure. Match with coq au vin and casseroles over the next 6+ years. Multi-clone fruit selection from vines up to 25 y.o., indigenous yeast fermented with a good portion of whole clusters to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques. 18.5/20 May 2014 RRP $46.95
