Pegasus Bay Waipara Valley Merlot/Cabernet 2012

Merlot from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 03-Jun-2015
Full, very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. This has an elegant bouquet with gently building aromas of black berry and dark red plum fruit infused with redcurrants, herbs cedar and pencil shavings oak. The nose is seamlessly melded and reveals fragrant spices, musk and a suggestion of camphor. Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly concentrated with integrated flavours of red berry and curranty fruit, herbs, cedary oak and musk. The flavours show good depth and the palate flows smoothly with satin-like tannins, and underlying acid vitality. The wine carries to a long, complex-flavoured finish with secondary dried herb, undergrowth and sweet, cedary oak notes. This is a smooth and finely concentrated Merlot/Cabernet blend with secondary herb and cedary flavours. Serve with herb-marinated red meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Malbec, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 2 years in French oak barriques. 17.5/20 May 2015 RRP $31.00
