Pegasus Bay Waipara Valley Gewurztraminer 2013

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 16-Jan-2015
Moderately deep, light golden-hued yellow colour. The nose is well-proportioned with concentrated aromas of ripe, savoury tropical fruits entwined with rose-petal florals, musk, honey and root ginger, unveiling subtle, complex and funky, reductive-nuanced detail. Medium-dry to medium in sweetness and fullish bodied, ripe flavours of yellow stonefruits, musk, florals and root ginger form a strong hearted core with restrained, luscious honied notes. The mouthfeel is soft and unctuous with very fine textures, and good alcohol power and drive. Some complex reductive elements add interest and are carried to a long, soft, near-decadent finish. This is a rich, near-decadent, medium-dry Gewurztraminer with ginger and honied flavours along with some subtle funky complexities. Match with Middle Eastern fare and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4-5 years. Fruit with a portion showing ‘hen and chicken’, and some with botrytis influence, given skin contact and cool-fermented and aged in old large format oak to 14.0% alc. and 19 g/L RS. 18.5+/20 Jan 2015 RRP $29.50
