Pegasus Bay Waipara Valley Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 02-Oct-2013
Even straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, a little lighter on rim. The bouquet is very full, broad and concentrated with a complex and fully interwoven array of aromas with ripe yellow stonefruits, honey, exotic tropical fruits and reductive flinty notes. Medium in sweetness, this has excellent weight, mouthfeel and presence, the palate packed with near-luscious flavours of apricots, ginger, musk and honey, alongside complex mineral and flinty reduction. The richness and soft acidity suggests decadence, and there is good alcoholic power and drive to support the density, carrying the flavoursto a dryish, long-lingering finish with flint, spice and honied nuances. This is a rich, dense and complex, flint and musk-flavoured medium Gewurztraminer in the Alsace style. Match with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from several sites including vines over 30 y.o., picked late, given skin contact and indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French puncheons to 14.0% alc. and 21.7 g/L RS. 18.0+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $27.95
