Pegasus Bay Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 28-Oct-2015
Bright, even yellow colour with lemon-gold hues and some depth. The nose is full, powerful and solidly packed with complex layers of ripe yellow stonefruit and citrus fruits melded with mealy and nutty notes, complex flinty and mineral elements and toasty, smoky oak. This is punchy and bold in expression. Full-bodied and with immense presence and power, the palate is deeply concentrated with flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, citrus fruit, mealy and nutty layers, and complexing butter, toast and gunflinty detail. The wine is mouthfilling and the fruit supported by plenty of texture and structure. Soft acidity enhances the opulence and robustness of the wine, and the wine carries with strength and drive to a long, complete finish packed with mealy, nutty and smoky notes. This is a very powerful, flavour-packed, complex-layered Chardonnay to match with flavoursome pork and veal dishes over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the estate’s original ungrafted vines, almost 30 y.o., indigenous yeast fermented in 30% new puncheons to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 1 year on lees, undergoing MLF. 19.5-/20 Oct 2015 RRP $39.00
