A blend of 70% Sauvignon with 30% Semillon, the latter barrel-fermented, the wine at 13.5% alc. Pale-straw-yellow, this had a powerful nose of ripe gooseberry fruit with strong barrel spiciness. Dry, ripe, lush and bold in flavour, the nutty, spicy oaking is a feature, nearly too much, but the depth of gooseberry and greengage, nettle and herb fruit flavours and significant textures compensate. Drink now to 3+ years with Mediterranean fare.  Mar 2011
