A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2.5% each of Malbec and Cabernet Franc, from vines some of which aged over 25 y.o. Fermented to 14.0% alc. with 3 weeks on skins, the wine was aged 2 years in French oak barriques. Full, deep, dark ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is harmonious and integrated, showing blackberry, boysenberry and plum aromas interwoven with secondary development nuances of herbs, earth and cedar. Medium-full bodied, densely packed flavours of dark plums, liquorice and spicy berry fruits unfold to show dried herb and cedary complexities. The mouthfeel is smoothly textured with mellowing tannins, the acidity still refreshing, providing good line and length. Well-ripened, this Bordeaux-varietal blend is harmonious and beginning to integrate with some complexing interest. Serve with beef and lamb over the next 5-6 years. 17.5+/20 May 2012 RRP $28.95
