A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec, fermented to 14.5% alc. then aged two years in barrel. Dark, deep, rubyred in colour, this has a full, dense nose of savoury red and dark berry fruits with earth, cedar and dried herbs. Full-bodied, but with rounded mouthfeel, the flavours are in the secondary stage, with savoury, cooked dark red fruits, game meat, cedar and earthy spices, framed within a substantial palate. A traditional-styled Bordeaux-style, showing few traces of its cooler South Island provenance – a sign of excellent viticultural work Drink now and over the next 5 years.  Mar 2011
