Pegasus Bay Waipara Gewurztraminer 2010

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 05-May-2012
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with golden hues, lighter on rim. This has an intense and concentrated nose with a complex amalgam of Turkish Delight, exotic stonefruits, ginger spice and funky, flinty reduction. Medium-dry in taste, flavours of rose petals, ginger, honey and flinty minerals feature on a weighty, oily-textured, near-unctuous and rounded palate. This has a lusciousness, enhanced by good acidity, but some alcoholic warmth is present. The generous palate leads to a finish with classic varietal bitterness, balanced by the residual sweetness. This is a complex and fulsome Gewurztraminer to match with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from separate plots including some with 30 y.o. vines. Indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French oak puncheons to 14.0% alc. and 17.1 g/L rs. 17.5+/20 May 2012 RRP $31.95
