Pegasus Bay Vergence Red MK II, North Canterbury

Blended Red from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 13-Sep-2022
Full, deep purple with a black core, lighter on the rim. The nose is gently full, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry intermixed smoke, mint bush, animal, cedar and spice. Medium-bodied, black cherry and blackberry aromas are underlined by a savoury edge, unfolding nutmeg, cedar, menthol and a hint of smoke. The mouthfeel is creamy with a soft, ripe tannin grip; integrated acidity carries spice and savoury details to a comforting, smooth finish. This black-fruited red blend possesses a smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a ripe tannin structure and savoury reveals. Match with meat stew and bolognese over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from 2021 vintage, predominantly Pinot Noir, fermented naturally in tank, including one-third whole bunch, then transferred to French oak barriques to mature for 12 months. 15% Cabernet Sauvignon was naturally fermented in barrel, hand destemmed and whole berries, left on skins for 200 days. The two components were blended prior to bottling. 13.5% alc. 18.5-/20 pts (92 pts) Sep 2022 RRP $40
