Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 10-Sep-2024
Bright, even, pale yellow gold. The nose is striking and full, with aromas of gunflint, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, spice and cornbread. Full-bodied, aromas of lemon, grapefruit and charred pineapple intertwined with gunflint, vanilla, spice and popcorn. The invigorating acidity lifts the rich palate and expands in length and breadth. Reductive gunflint nuance is compatible and contributes to opulence and complexity. This rich, reductive Chardonnay is seductive and well-balanced. Match with roasted suckling pig and grilled swordfish over the next 8+ years. Only produced in exceptional vintages, best barrels selection. Handpicked, foot-trotted, the non-clarified juice fermented in large French oak barrels (puncheons), 40% new oak, wild fermented to 13.5% alc, aged in puncheons on lees for 10 months, underwent MLF. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Sep 2024 RRP $67
