Pegasus Bay Reserve Prima Donna Pinot Noir Aged Release 2010, Waipara

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 29-Jul-2020
Deep, medium ruby-red with a black hue, lighter on edge with a tawny shade. The nose is elegantly restrained with perfumes of dark florals, red plums and black cherries, unfolding wet leaves, forest floor, dried thyme and spices as it aerated, along with notes of medicinal herbs, cedar and mineral element. Full-bodied, nuances of blueberries, mulberries and cherries are concentrated on the palate, unveiling medicinal herbs, liquorice roots, wet leaves, entwined with spices and lifting mineral notes. The mouthfeel is powerful yet elegant in structure with powdery, gently firm fine-grained tannin texture line. The fruit is elegant and just right in proportion, with balanced tangy acidity, drawing out beautiful perfume and spices, finish on a cleansing mineral finish. Complexing flavours unveiled one after another, full of detail and interest to savour. Match with truffle risotto and grilled venison loin over the next 5-6 years. Only made in exceptional years, selected best barrels. One-third whole-bunches, fermented to 14% alc. Aged in French oak barriques for 18 months, 40% new. 19+/20 pts July 2020 RRP $120
