Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir 2021, North Canterbury

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 19-Jul-2023
Deep ruby-red with a purple hue, lighter on the rim. The nose is gently full, with aromas of cherry, blackberry, herb and earth. Medium-full bodied, aromas of black cherry and blackberry entwined with thyme, liquorice, black pepper, dark cocoa and earthy undertone. The wine is dark-toned and mouth-filling with a fine-grained tannin framework, reflecting dark cocoa and spice. Balance and lively acidity cut through the richness and carry a lengthy, rich finish. This rich and fine-grained Pinot Noir persists a savoury lingering. Match with mushroom risotto and grilled lamb over the next 8+ years. Fermented with 40% whole bunches, cold soaked for a few days, naturally fermented to 13% alc, aged in oak barriques for 15 months, 40% new oak. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) July 2023 RRP $57
