Malbec from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 28-May-2024
Full, deep inky purple, even colour throughout. This has a full, mealy bouquet with aromas of savoury, cured meat, blackberry, plum, earth and spice. Full-bodied aromas of blackberry, plum and dark cherry laced with invigorating acidity, unfolding earthy minerals, nutmeg, clove, tobacco and cured venison. The robust mouthfeel is laden with spice, earthy-toned minerals and ripe, fine-grained tannins. Excellent concentration, depth and length. Match with venison and roasted lamb over the next 8+ years. Fermented naturally in stainless steel tank, then pressed off to French oak barriques, 40% new oak. Underwent MLF in summer, aged in oak for 18 months. 19/20 pts (95 pts) May 2024 RRP $35
