Pegasus Bay ‘Encore’ Waipara Valley Noble Riesling 2011

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 09-Mar-2015
Moderately deep golden yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is full and deeply concentrated with rich, ripe citrus and tropical fruit aromas layered with figs and caramelised fruits, marmalade and honey, the botrytis integrated and pervasive. The aromatics are lifted with some VA and complexed by exotic floral elements. Very rich and opulent, this is nectar-like with an unctuous and rounded mouthfeel. Decadent flavours of citrus fruits, marmalade, honey and toffee unfold in gentle waves, and the wine coats the palate. The fruit and botrytis show great presence and intensity. Lifted floral and VA elements cut the richness with fine, underlying acidity lending drive. The wine flows seamlessly to a soft, lush, very long, lingering finish. This is a rich and unctuous botrytised Riesling. Serve with caramel desserts and steamed puddings, blue cheeses or instead of a liqueur over the next 6-8+ years. Botrytised fruit from old ungrafted vines, hand picked and hand sorted, slow-fermented at cool temperatures to 10.5% alc. and 214 g/L RS with TA 8.2 g/L. (375 ml) 19.0-/20 Mar 2015 RRP $38.00
