Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 19-Jul-2023
Bright, medium yellow gold, even colour throughout. The nose is full and powerful, penetrating with gunflint, roasted nut, spice and underlining citrus and stonefruit. Medium-full bodied, aromas of apricot and peach melded with lemon peels, warm butter, toasted almonds and gunflint. The wine is mouth-filling with a creamy mouthfeel and phenolic texture. Lively acidity provides tension and drive to a nutty, toasty finish. This is a powerful Chardonnay features rich, toasty elements and acid tension. Match with roasted nut loaf and peanut butter chicken over the next 6-8 years. Handpicked, free-run juice went into large French oak puncheons (70% neutral oak) for fermentation with indigenous yeasts, aged in puncheon on lees for 12 months approx, underwent MLF. 13% alc. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) July 2023 RRP $45
