Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 19-Jul-2023
Deep purple with a ruby hue, lighter on the rim. The nose is full and appealing, with aromas of succulent black fruit, minty herb, violet, leather, star anise and cardamon. Full-bodied, blackberry, boysenberry and plum aromas have a concentrated core, enveloping mint, star anise, cardamom, liquorice and leather. Tightly bounded fine-grained tannins provide a framework for the succulent and perfumed fruit; radiant acidity carries a sustained, dry finish. This Cabernet Franc possesses excellent fruit concentration, a tight-knitted tannin structure driven by luminous acidity and a lengthy, complex finish. Match with herb-rubbed lamb and beef stew over the next 8+ years. Fermented naturally to 13.5% alc, aged in French oak barriques for 18 months, underwent MLF. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) July 2023 RRP $35
