Pegasus Bay Aged Release Prima Donna Pinot Noir 2012, North Canterbury

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 22-Feb-2022
Medium ruby-red with a garnet hue, garnet shade on the rim. The bouquet is delicate, penetrating spice, raspberries, dried cranberries interweave sweet herb, black pepper and floral fragrances. Medium-bodied, sweet cedar on entry, unveiling raspberries, dried cranberries, sweet herb, vanilla melded with liquorice and a hint of smoked paprika. The wine is sweetly-rich and complex, retaining delicate fragrance and fruit. Velvety tannin and lacy acidity integrated harmoniously with spicy lead and closed the palate. This smooth, harmoniously developed Pinot Noir shows complex layers and elegance with a lengthy enticing finish. Match with pigeon with truffle sauce and roasted duck over the next 2-4 years. Multi-clone fruit from vines approx. 40 y.o., with a portion ungrafted, indigenous yeast fermented with a high proportion of whole berries and 10% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 40% new French oak barriques. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Feb 2022 RRP $130
