Pegasus Bay Aged Release Pinot Noir 2014, North Canterbury

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 01-May-2024
Bright, medium garnet with a ruby core, lightly on the rim. The nose is gently full and enticing, with aromas of dried cherry, plum and a suggestion of cranberry, melded with autumn leaves, mushroom, meatiness and spices. Medium-bodied, aromas of dried plum and cherry melded with cinnamon, nutmeg, mushroom, unfolding forest floor and hints of meatiness. The fruit is mellowed and nicely integrated with spice and savoury developments. Silky tannins and fresh acidity provide structure, and a long linger. This aged Pinot Noir is silky yet powerful, with integrated details, complexity and a lengthy finish. Match with lamb stew and mushroom risotto over the next 3 years. 1/3 of the grapes fermented whole bunch, natural fermentation to 13.5% alc, aged French oak barriques for 18 months, 30% new oak. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) May 2024 RRP $70
