Paul Mas ‘Savignac Vineyard’ Pays d’Herault Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2014

Other Red from France - Other
Review Date : 24-Sep-2016
Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with slight purple hues. This has a firm and powerfully concentrated nose of ripe blackberry fruit entwined with piquant and savoury garrigue herb notes, unveiling stalk and earth elements and a suggestion of nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, rich and sweetly ripe fruit flavours of dark-red and black fruits are melded with savoury herb and subtle stalk and earth nuances. The mouthfeel is vigorous with plenty of tannin grip and structure, all enlivened by bright and brisk acidity. The wine carries to a robust, near mouthwatering finish with grainy tannin grip and lingering savoury herb notes. This is a fulsome and robust, lively Carignan with savoury dark-red berry and herb flavours and plenty of structure and acidity. Match with game meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. Languedoc fruit from vines over 50 y.o. fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 6 months in 20% new American oak. 18.0/20 Sep 2016 RRP $17.99
