Pasquale ‘Passito’ Waitaki Valley 2012

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 28-Jan-2015
A blend of Pinot Gris and Riesling, the fruit clean, without botrytis infection, air-dried on racks and fermented to 14.6% alc. and 120 g/L RS. Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, paler on edge. The nose is fresh and firmly bound with aromas of yellow stonefruits, honey and nuts, along with sulphide reduction complexties and a layering of nutty, charry oak. Sweet to taste and full-bodied, the palate features a tightly concentrated and strong core of yellow stonefruits along with yellow florals, nutty oak and honeyed elements. A sulphide reduction and oak toast amalgam merges with a fine, phenolic line adding to the firmness and depth. This has a degree of alcoholic power and drive, and underlying acidity which moderates the sweetness, leading to a sustained finish of florals, honey and nuts. This is a firm, tight and powerful sweet wine with floral, honied and nutty ok flavours with some reductive elements. Match with pastry and baked desserts over the next 4-5+ years. (375 ml) 16.5/20 Jan 2015 RRP $25.00
