Pask ‘Small Batch – Watercourse Block’ Gimblett Road Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Apr-2015
Full, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is elegantly proportioned with very intensely concentrated aromas of blackcurrant essence and cassis, the fruit showing aromatic vitality and purity, focus and penetration. The oaking is sensitive with spice and pencil shavings adding interest. Medium-full bodied and stylishly presented, the sweetly ripe fruit flavours of blackcurrants, cassis, blackberries and liquorice are very well-concentrated and show real depth. This has excellent oak balance, with subtle aromatic lift. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained tannins lending a near-satin-like texture to the core and line. The acidity is beautifully integrated and the wine flows with energy and tension leading to a very long, concentrated and lingering finish of cassis. This is an elegantly concentrated, vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon with fine cassis flavours and refined structure. Match with roasted lamb, beef and venison, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 7-9+ years. Fruit from the ‘Watercourse Block’, the best performing vines over 15 y.o. Fermented in tank to 13.5% alc., the wine aged14 months in 50% new American oak. 480 cases made. 18.5+/20 Apr 2015 RRP $29.00
