Pask ‘Gimblett Road’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Jun-2015
Full, very dark, black-hued ruby-red, a little lighter on rim, youthful. The nose is firm and tightly bound with fresh blackcurrant aromas entwined with fresh herbs and nuances of stalky, cooler-spectrum fruit. The aromatics are focussed with purity and show depth. Medium-bodied, the mouthfeel is lively with fresh acidity a feature, enlivening the black and red curranty fruit. Layers of fresh herbs and stalky-stemmy nuances unfold. The fruit is underlined by grainy tannin extraction and flows along with plenty of energy, with mouthwatering acidity adding to the liveliness. The wine leads to a firmly packed, textured finish with currant and herb notes. This is an elegant, cooler-spectrum Merlot with herb and curranty flavours and a fresh, firm mouthfeel. Serve with beef salad and Mediterranean fare over the next 4+ years. Merlot fruit blended from all the estate sites on Gimblett Road, partially cold soaked and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 13 months in seasoned French and American oak. 16.5/20 Jun 2015 RRP $22.00
