Pask ‘Declaration’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot/Malbec 2010

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Jun-2015
A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 22% Malbec, from the ‘McKay’, ‘Watercourse’ and ‘Trust’ blocks in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 90% new French and Hungarian oak. Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with black hues. The nose is one of finesse with good intensity of blackcurrant fruit along with spicy blackberries, fresh dark herbs and a little leafy interest, unveiling plum, iron-earth and minerally detail with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the fruit is tightly bound with concentrated and elegantly presented flavours of black and redcurrants, spicy plums and subtle layers of mint and fresh herbs. The fruit is sweet and juicy, and the mouthfeel possesses vitality from fresh, lacy acidity. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin structure providing good linearity, and the wine flows with good tension and energy leading to a lively, currant and herb nuanced finish. This is an elegant, fresh and lively blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec with bright acidity and tannins and good linearity. Serve with lamb, beef and Mediterranean fare over the next 6-8 years. 489 cases made. 18.5-/20 Jun 2015 RRP $50.00
