Parusso Barbera d’Alba Ornati DOC 2008

Barbera from Italy - Piedmont
Review Date : 02-Mar-2011
The wines of Armando Parusso figure among the most refined and elegant of Piedmont. The Barbera d'Alba Ornati is true to the house style, while demonstrating the classic high acidity and low tannin personality of the Barbera variety. Made from fruit from the Ornati area of Monforte d'Alba, this was fermented to 13.5% alc. and aged 12 months in small oak. Bright, medium-deep ruby-red with youthful purple hues, this has a tightly focussed, but intense bouquet of cherries, boysenberries, red liquorice and herbs. Medium-weight, this has a tightly bound palate with a concentrated core of dark cherries and herbs along with definite acidity which results in a succulence and juiciness. The tannins are quite supple and fine-grained and allow the fruit to come to the fore. The finish is long and lifted with red berry essence flavours. A versatile wine to serve with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 5-7 years. 18.5/20 Feb 2011 RRP $42.99
