Bright straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. This has an attractive aromatic nose with tightly bound and finely expressed gooseberry fruit with subtle passionfruit and tropical fruit notes, lifted by white florals, revealing nuances of smoke and flint. The nose has a refreshing steeliness. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, elegant and refined flavours of gooseberries, tropical fruits, lime and herbs show with a delicate juiciness and succulence. White floral and minerally, flinty detail add a layer of interest. The mouthfeel has a fine core and is dry in textural flow, with piquant acidity lending lively poise and steely cut. This is very well-balanced and harmonious, and the wine flows to a tight, mouthwatering, long lingering finish. This is an elegant and refined, tightly bound Sauvignon Blanc with aromatic fruit and a crisp, dry, thirst-quenching mouthfeel. Serve as an aperitif, with salads and vegetables and Pacific Rim fare over the next 2+ years. Fruit primarily from the ‘Palliser’ and ‘East Base’ vineyards cool-fermented, partially with indigenous yeast to 13.0% alc. and 4.3 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 months on lees. 18.5/20 Feb 2015 RRP $26.50
