Moderately deep ruby-red with youthful purple hues. This has a deep and densely concentrated bouquet with rich, ripe, dark red berry fruits along with subtle savoury dried herbal complexities, lifted with floral notes, and stalk and stem detail suggesting whole clusters. The aromatics unfold in waves of interest. Elegantly presented, this has a deep and well-concentrated core of sweet red fruits along with lush and juicy notes that reveal soft spices and an array of interwoven dried herbs. The palate has a fine-textured core and line, the acidity quite soft, enabling accessibility. However this will keep well, for another 5-6 years. Another Palliser Pinot Noir that delivers all you’d want. 18.5+/20 Jun 2014 RRP $54.50 Full, light purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is elegantly proportioned with penetrating and intense aromas of ripe, black berry fruits with layers of complex savoury fruit and herb in an amalgam with spicy oak. Medium-full bodied, this has a concentrated and deeply packed core of ripe plum fruit flavours entwined with Asian spices, liquorice and savoury, dark herb notes. Oak spice and toast elements add a layer of detail. The fruit richness is bound with very fine-grained tannins providing a refined, but firm textured palate line. Good acid liveliness and tension enhances the fruitiness and vitality, and carry the flavours to a very long and sustained finish of spicy plums and liquorice. This is a fine-textured and firmly concentrated Pinot Noir with dark plum and spicy flavours. Serve with hare, wild pork, game meat and hard cheeses over the next 6-7+ years. Clones 114, 777, Abel and 677 from the ‘Wharekauhau’ and ‘East Base’ vineyards, vines 11-14 y.o., fully destemmed and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 14-20 days on skins and aged 12 months in 30% new French oak. 18.5+/20 Sep 2013 RRP $54.00
